FB Meme Transferred

On Facebook there's a meme going around... 25 random facts about me.

I know, you didn't ask. But in case you're interested:

1. I simply adore Gene Kelly.

2. I love the arts & humanities. I love music, visual art, writing, theater, singing. Yet I wish I had delved deeply into one of these things rather than dabbling a little into each.

3. There are books inside of me trying to get out. I feel that if I wait too long, the characters will perish, and I will be guilty of murder.

4. I teach Sunday school. But I'm a Unitarian, so Sunday school is pretty wacky.

5. I am surprised to find myself teaching for a living. I never believed I had the patience/planning/creativity for that.

6. I am allergic to eggplant.

7. Having to deal with my child's chronic illness has changed me. I think I became more anal retentive when I had children (just to stay on top of everything that *needed* to be done) and now that A.R. quality has been honed and intensified.

8. I believe I would be happy to work at a dead-end job for an hourly wage, as long as I could do it in Hawaii.

9. When my friends had kids with peanut allergies, I used to think "I don't know how they deal with that!" when it came to reading every label, separating all the food, dealing with school & parties, etc. Now that we have celiac in the family, people tell me that they don't know how I deal with that. But I do. I have found that you do what you have to do for your family.

10. Don't touch the crossword puzzle. It's mine.

11. I have to have music to drive long distances. And I have to sing loudly to arrive safely. Bring your ear plugs.

12. Must have chocolate.

13. I believe we are here for a reason. However, we may never know what the reason is.

14. My paternal grandparents died 10 years ago, but I still dream about them and sometimes sense them. I feel like I should call them sometimes.

15. I don't think I've reached my potential, and I'm afraid time is going too fast.

16. When I was quite young, my mom dressed me up and entered me into one of those pretty little girl contests. It was at a mall, I think. I remember being surrounded by all the lovely girls with their tulle dresses and flowing hair and knowing, at such an early age, that I was totally, utterly in the wrong place.

17. I've been to 5 Billy Joel concerts. Once I sat in the 2nd row and caught a drumstick.

18. I live vicariously through Brad, my oldest, dearest friend, who is an actor. I imagine my life if I had followed his career path. I wonder what kind of person I would be if I had gone north instead of west. Not that I'm unhappy. Quite the opposite. Just curious.

19. I loved the short time I spent in graduate school for poetry at the U. of Pittsburgh. It was a flowering, an awakening. I am so sorry I never got my MFA.

20. I'm scared of spiders, but I try not to let my kids see that.

21. My favorite chore is laundry. It is warm and gives you time to think. My least favorite is mopping. You have to move everything, and you have to vacuum first, which makes it a double chore. Or a triple one, actually.

22. I've quilted, knitted, sewed, and woven, but don't know how to crochet.

23. I think I can fix almost anything, as long as there is a clear instruction manual.

24. I found out that kids don't come with instruction manuals.

25. One of my favorite weekends was an escape spent with 3 girlfriends in Cape May. We solved all the world's problems as we walked the beach, snooped, shopped, played, sang, and drowzed. I'll treasure that weekend forever.

Tell me 25 random things about you!!

Finally, 10 Things About Me!

I'm sorry it took so long for me to get around to this! It's been a busy week. My wonderful hubby turned 50 yesterday, and I threw him a lovely, yet quite small dinner party. He did not want to make a fuss. But I was able to invite a just a couple of friends & neighbors so I had to do shopping & get the house clean and make the special request white chocolate cheesecake... etc. etc.

Anyway. The meme.

The rules are that you have to write a blog with 10 weird, random, facts, habits or goals about yourself. At the end choose 6 people to be tagged, list their names and why you tagged them. Don't forget to leave them a comment saying ('You're It!') and to go read your blog. You can not tag the person that tagged you, so, since you can't tag me back let me know when you are done so that I can go read YOUR blog answers.

1. My mom didn't let us kids have sodas when we were growing up (except on special occasions or going out) and now I hardly ever drink them. They don't taste good to me, except the rare coca cola over lots of ice on a very hot day. My mom also never got us peanut butter, but I just love that stuff. Have it all the time. Isn't that weird?

2. I make a damn fine white chocolate cheesecake (gluten free).

3. When I was a kid spinach was my favorite vegetable. It's still in my top 10.

4. I know lots of songs from Broadway musicals and sing them all the time. I raised my kids on show tunes. Hence we are a very weird family because we don't know anything about American Idol but can sing all the words from "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels."

5. I married my husband twice, almost a year apart.

6. Daniel was born when I was 30. I was born when my mom was 30. I don't know if this 30 year thing goes back more than this.

7. I am "woman, interrupted." I was interrupted 3 times while trying to write the last 6 lines.

8. I wanted to be an actress. Now I want to be a writer. I have been slowly choking in non-artistic jobs. I want my next job to have an artistic component. OR if it doesn't, then I have to write something on the side. A story. A book. An encyclopedia of mom knowledge that's important yet hilarious.

9. I shouldn't hide things because I forget where they are. One Christmas Daniel was a little sad after present-opening time, and it was because he didn't get something that he asked for. I said, "Wait. I got you that." Yet there were no more presents under the tree. OOPS! So I went in search of it (and I found it in the garage) but while I was looking in other places I found another present that I had hidden for Nora, and then yet another present that I had hidden for Dominic THE CHRISTMAS BEFORE.

10. I just took the SAT.

Who am I going to tag? Jules, Daena, Windy, Kristen, because I'd love to hear what they have to say, and I'm not tagging anyone else because everyone has been tagged!!!!

I'll post pics from Matt's birthday soon. More people coming for dinner tonight, though!

MEME?

Oy, I'm the crotchety old lady of the group so I'm figuring out what meme means! So thanks to Amylia I've been meme'd!

Here are the rules:
1. Link to the person’s blog who tagged you.
2. Post these rules on your blog.
3. List seven random and/or weird facts about yourself.
4. Tag seven random people at the end of your post.
5. Let each person know they've been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Seven deadly sins about me, eh? Well...

1. I have a tendency to sing show tunes at random moments. Along with this, I have raised my kids to be musical theater geeks like me.
"Dress up a monkey in Armani,
He may seem precocious and cute.
Despite all that primpin',
You still got a chimp in a suit." Oops, there I go again. (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels)

2. I can stand on my head for 3 minutes. It took 20 years of yoga to get that far. Yoga is a lifetime of work for me, and an eternity of bliss. It keeps me going when the rest of the world is a whirlwind. I use the "ohm" symbol on my blog to remind me to be in THIS moment. NOW.

3. I married my husband about 4 1/2 months after our first date. Probably would have married him the day after that date. We both knew. When he reached over and held my hand in the movie theater, I felt a jolt, and that was it, he was the one. Never mind that I had just broken off a 3 year relationship with someone else and declared that I wasn't ready for anything "serious." We talked about it months later... he felt the same jolt. Weird, huh? But then again... my mom & dad met at a dinner party in Turkey. They got married only months later in Israel. My dad's mom & dad met at the beginning of summer in Paris, and married at the end of summer in Paris (but they had to bribe an official to shorten the time for the banns because grandpa had to get back to the States to college). So I guess it runs in the family.

4. I was a poetry major in grad school. One of my first & best poetry teachers told me that if you want to be a poet, you have to figure out what you are going to do in your life to support being a poet (like brain surgery, engineering, office managing...). She was a lawyer. Oh, and when I was in elementary school someone read one of my poems over the intercom during morning announcements. I almost fainted.

S T R E T C H this is hard

5. Some people lose socks. Some lose umbrellas. I keep losing spoons. They disappear from my house. Where the hell do all the spoons go? Why? The dishwasher doesn't eat them, I checked.

6. I'm an optimist. I always have been. My optimism has been sorely tested this year with Daniel's diagnoses. I tend to get out all my emotions when I write, so I may not seem optimistic in my words. But I am in person. Not just about Daniel, but for the whole world. Really.

7. My knees bend backwards. Much more than normal. I do not condone hyperextension by any means, and I try to avoid it myself. But it does look pretty freaky!!

Wow! I did it! Now I have to tag people. Hmmm. Can I tag total strangers? Places I've lurked?

I'm want to tag Jillian, but found out that she's been tagged. So has Shannon. So has Penny. And Beth. And Bernard. And so many of the other D365ers! But...

I'm tagging Sara, DeathByBokeh, M, whom I don't know, but found her on the OC, Jules, and since I have to go make the cranberry sauce now, I can't do any more!!!!
